The mentorship experience between the Foundation for the Tri-National Sangha (FTNS) and the Foundation for Parks and Reserves of Côte d’Ivoire (FPRCI) tackles a pressing challenge: closing the funding gap for biodiversity conservation in Central Africa.

As the Congo Basin – a critical global carbon sink and biodiversity hotspot – faces increasing threats from deforestation and degradation, innovative financing strategies have become essential. Supported by the BRIDGE Project, this partnership empowers FTNS to leverage FPRCI’s expertise in mobilizing private sector funds, particularly in industries like cocoa production.

The mentorship’s success underscores its replication potential for other Conservation Trust Funds (CTFs). By demonstrating how strategic partnerships and capacity building can bridge funding gaps, this case study offers a roadmap for CTFs seeking to engage the private sector effectively.

Through a structured approach, the mentorship enabled FTNS to analyze FPRCI’s strategies, assess its capacity, and develop a tailored fundraising strategy. Core activities included training sessions led by conservation financing experts, a field mission to Côte d’Ivoire, and collaborative strategy development. The results are transformative: FTNS now has a comprehensive roadmap emphasizing partnerships with sustainable companies, innovative tools like green bonds and carbon credits, and even the launch of a green credit card process in collaboration with Ecobank.
