Mentoring is a learning and teaching practice that enables the organizational growth of conservation trust funds (CTFs).

The exchange of experiences among peers, despite differing contexts, streamlines the design and adjustment processes, allowing innovative ideas to be put into practice through more efficient resource management. Although these are not step-by-step formulas, the questions raised are common during the design phases and the development of financial instruments or mechanisms aimed at achieving high social, environmental, and economic impact. These mechanisms often involve “blended financing,” a strategy combining public, private, and/or philanthropic funds to achieve sustainable development goals and attract and mobilize the private sector.

The recognition of the triple planetary crisis (climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution) has raised urgency in international negotiations and discussions aimed at defining targets and actions to reduce the negative impact of human activity on the planet.
Conservation trust funds face challenges such as measuring impact and scaling up context-specific models. Overcoming these challenges can unlock more investment mobilization, enhance risk mitigation, and generate positive outcomes on ecosystems, communities, and the overall economy.
