Since 2000, the Foundation for the Conservation of Natural Resources and the Environment in Guatemala (FCG) has focused on strengthening the management of protected natural areas and promoting the restoration of the country’s ecosystems. For over two decades, our work has contributed to conserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable development, and improving environmental resilience to climate change.

We seek to improve land and water management practices in 48 micro-watersheds in the region, ensuring the participation of women and generating social benefits for the most vulnerable groups.
Over the years, we have faced structural challenges that limit our capacity to generate profound change that strengthens local livelihoods. Many of our program guidelines focus on environmental goals, but fail to integrate social or economic goals to achieve truly sustainable development. Therefore, we believe that the future of adaptation must explicitly integrate social and economic objectives, so that environmental conservation also translates into well-being and opportunities for rural communities.
