What if storytelling could change the way we protect nature? This case study explores the mentorship exchange between Profonanpe, a leading environmental fund in Peru, and the Protected Areas Trust (PAT) – Guyana’s only National Conservation Trust Fund – facilitated by the BRIDGE Mentorship Program.

The collaboration aimed to strengthen PAT’s communication strategies to engage stakeholders – particularly the private sector – in conservation efforts. The program delivered valuable tools and insights through online training, a field trip to the Kanuku Mountains Protected Area, and practical mentorship in storytelling, campaign design, and sponsorship management.

A key outcome was the development of the “The Kanuku Heritage” campaign, which targeted one of Guyana’s five protected areas and showcased the unique biodiversity of the Kanuku Mountains and the contributions of local communities.
This mentorship exchange presents a model for other Conservation Trust Funds (CTFs) to follow. It shows how focused communication strategies can enhance conservation efforts and strengthen partnerships. The collaboration between Profonanpe and PAT demonstrates the practical value of storytelling for building connections and promoting environmental protection. This mentorship program is a tool that every CTF should undertake at least once.
