The Protected Areas Conservation Trust of Belize (PACT) established an emergency relief fund to mobilise finance to support communities affected by the wildfires and increase resilience and preparedness to future disasters. With climate change increasing environmental risks for people and nature, funding emergency relief and preparedness has become an integral part of our mission—and we believe that it will, inevitably, become part of the work of many more CTFs as our planet warms.

We support resilience initiatives in protected areas as well as in agriculture, housing and other sectors. We finance the management of approximately 100 protected areas, collaborating with around 25 NGOs and government agencies, as well as buffer communities around the protected areas.
PACT was established in 1996, as a national conservation financial mechanism for our national protected areas system. Since 2011, we have mobilized climate finance and we are the only entity in Belize accredited by the Green Climate Fund and the Adaptation Fund.
