The Fundraising with the Private Sector BRIDGE mentorship experience, led by the Foundation for the Conservation of Biodiversity (BIOFUND), was designed as a transformative initiative to empower seven Conservation Trust Funds (CTFs) from both Africa and Latin America to engage effectively with private sector donors. The initiative aimed to enhance financial resilience and promote innovative financing mechanisms by addressing critical fundraising strategies and capacity gaps.

This case study highlights the experience’s main achievements, including the development of tailored fundraising strategies, the strengthening donor relationships, and the adoption of innovative financing models, including biodiversity offsets, debt-for-nature swaps, and basket funds for protected areas. Through a mix of online and face-to-face sessions, the experience fostered collaboration, enabling CTFs to share best practices and establish a support network.

As global ecosystems face increasing threats from climate change, deforestation, and unsustainable exploitation, the need for innovative financing mechanisms has never been more urgent.
This mentorship experience demonstrated its replicability for other CTFs and displayed the potential of private-sector partnerships in driving sustainable conservation financing. BIOFUND’s role as a mentor has consolidated its position as a regional leader in biodiversity financing, ensuring that the knowledge shared continues to benefit a broader network of conservation organizations.
